Application process

Step 1: Get To Know Us

Get to know about York House School through our website and a visit on campus. Have a question? Get in touch with us.

Step 2: Apply

Our application will open in September. The deadline for 2026/27 academic year applications will depend on the grade level. Please check key dates below.

Applications are open to Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents (PR). Applicants and at least one parent must be Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents and must live together locally while attending school. If you do not meet these requirements, please contact the Enrollment Management Office for more information on our International Student policy.


Starting Your Online Application

Log in to the application portal to start an online application. If this is your first-time applying, you will be asked to create a login name and password. Please allow 2-4 business days for your admissions checklist to appear on your profile. During this time you can continue to work on the application form. Once the checklist is assigned you can start to upload the requested documents.

Reapplicants: If you applied last year, refer to Step 6: Re-Apply.

Current YHS parents: Use your existing myYHS login for sibling application(s).

 

Multiple Sibling Applications

Use the same login for all applications. After submitting the first application, choose “Apply Another Child” for subsequent applications.

 

Application Fee

A $350 application fee is collected at the final step of the application form. A confirmation email will be sent once your application is submitted successfully. Prior to submitting your application, if you are also applying for financial aid, please contact us at admissions@yorkhouse.ca for an application fee waiver code. Step 3: Submit Required Documents

For us to fully understand the applicant's educational needs, please provide all relevant documents with your application to York House School. You can upload requested documents according to the checklist of your online application. All documents listed with a due date are required as part of your application. Other checklist items without a due date are optional. Applications are not considered complete until all required documents are received. 

Documents to submit:

  • Recent photograph / headshot of the applicant;
  • Recent photograph of your family;
  • Copy of child’s birth certificate;
  • Proof of Canadian citizenship or permanent residence status for the applicant and at least one parent;
  • Two recommendation forms (one about your family, one about the applicant). You will send a link to the referees through the application checklist, who will complete an online form directly linked to your application.
  • School report cards/progress reports: last year’s final report card, and all of this year's reports, teacher comments and ELL (English Language Learning) addendums, if applicable;
  • Any Individual Educational Plans (IEP) assigned to the student (if applicable);
  • Any educational related assessments of the student, including but not limited to psycho-educational assessments; and
  • Any other pertinent information regarding the applicant's educational needs.

Step 4: Assessment

Our assessments are designed to determine an applicant’s readiness for our program, and provide insight on their aptitude, abilities, and interests.
 

Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten Assessments:

  • Focus on school-readiness skills through one-on-one activities with a teacher, exploring social-emotional readiness, communication, and motor skills.
  • Assessments occur in January 2026
  • Shortlisted applicants will be invited to parent interviews (in-person or online) in January and February.
  • No formal parent interviews are required for re-applicants or current York House parents.
     

Grades 1-7 Junior School Assessments:

  • Consist of age/grade-normed math, reading, and writing exercises.
  • For Grades 1-3, shortlisted applicants will be invited to assessments only if an opening is known, followed by parent interviews.
  • Grade 5 assessments will take place in January 2026. For Grades 4, 6, and 7, applicants are invited for assessments in mid-February. Shortlisted applicants for Grade 5 and other grades with available spaces will be invited for an observational day at York House in early March, followed by parent interviews.
     

Grades 8-12 Senior School Assessments:

  • The SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) is required to assess verbal, math, and reading skills for Grade 8-12 applicants
  • Applicants must register for the SSAT at www.ssat.org. Tests can be completed online (at-home test option), or at any available test centers.
    • Grade 8 applicants must complete the test by mid-November.
    • Grade 9-12 applicants must complete the test by the end of January.
  • York House School will host an SSAT session in November for our applicants. Please contact us at admissions@yorkhouse.ca for more information. For other SSAT taking options, please visit ssat.org
  • Grade 8-12 applicants must also complete an online assessment called the Character Skills Snapshot (Register at ssat.org). Grade 8 applicants must complete it by mid-November. Grade 9-12 applicants must complete it by the end of January.
  • Grade 8 applicants will be invited for additional group assessment activities in November / December.
  • Shortlisted Grade 8 applicants and parents will be invited for interviews in January and February.
  • If spaces become available, shortlisted Grade 9-12 applicants will be invited for interviews.

 

NOTE TO FINANCIAL AID APPLICANTS
  • Contact the Enrollment Management Office for a fee waiver for the York House School application if the fee is a barrier to your applicat.
  • Fee waivers for the SSAT and Character Skills Snapshot may also be available.
Step 5: Decisions
  • Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten: February 2026
  • Grade 8: February 2026
  • Grade 5: mid-March
  • All other grades: on a rolling basis from April onwards, as spaces become available 
Step 6: Re-Apply

There are often more qualified applicants than available spaces each year, so we encourage you to re-apply. Applications are kept on file for one year, although updated documents and assessments may be necessary.

To re-apply for the next school year, submit an online reapplication via the application portal by the application deadline. The re-application fee is $250. Contact Enrollment Management Office for any questions.

Frequently Asked Questions for Applying

IF MY CHILD IS ACCEPTED INTO JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN, WILL THEY AUTOMATICALLY BE ACCEPTED TO SENIOR KINDERGARTEN?
Yes. There is no further admissions-related process between JK to SK.
WHEN CAN I START APPLYING FOR JUNIOR / SENIOR KINDERGARTEN?
For the 2026-27 school year, children born in 2022 can apply for JK, and those born in 2021 can apply for SK. If you have questions about this, please contact th Enrollment Management Office.
Does York House School accept international students? 
In order to comply with residency policies, all applicants and at least one of their parents must be Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents and must live together locally while attending school. We do not offer any homestay or boarding options. We give considerations to families on work permits on a case-by-case basis, so please contact us to inquire.

Does York House Accept Mid-year Applicants?

All applicants are considered for September entry, which is the start of our academic year. We do not accept applications for mid-year entry, and we do not offer short-term placements for visiting students. 
Can my child repeat or skip a grade upon entering York House School? 
All candidates are considered for the grade that corresponds to their birth year according to Canadian academic standards. If a student is coming from a school system with differing age mandates, please contact Enrollment Management Office.
